How we check every answer
NYC: is alternate side parking in effect today?
Source: NYC DOT — 2026 Alternate Side Parking suspension calendar (.ics), read October 29, 2026. It lists the 42 holiday suspensions in 2026 and whether parking meters are also suspended. Our rule: on a Sunday there is no ASP; on a date in the calendar ASP is suspended; any other day it is in effect. “Today” means today in New York time — the page is rebuilt each day and the answer is re-checked in your browser when you open it.
What it can’t tell you: weather and emergency suspensions (usually snow) are announced at short notice by NYC DOT and 311 and are not in the calendar file. See NYC DOT — Alternate Side Parking rules and suspensions.
NYC: your street’s cleaning hours
Source: NYC Open Data — Parking Regulation Locations and Signs (nfid-uabd), read October 30, 2026. We keep every current sign whose text includes the street-cleaning broom (194,955 signs), read the days and times from the sign text, and group them by street, block (the two cross streets) and side. Duplicate signs on the same block and side are counted, not repeated. “Except Sunday” means Monday to Saturday. The next time you need to move skips Sundays and holiday suspensions; if today’s window has already ended, it moves on to the next one.
Fines: NYC Department of Finance — Parking violation codes and fines — violation code 21 (street cleaning) is $65 in every part of the city since February 20, 2020. Older guides still quote $45 outside Manhattan.
Chicago: winter overnight ban and snow routes
Sources: City of Chicago Data Portal — Winter Overnight Parking Restrictions (mcad-r2g5) (20 street stretches, 98.1 miles) and City of Chicago — Snow Route Parking Restrictions (i6k4-giaj) (144 segments, 609.7 miles), read October 30, 2026. Miles are the city’s own figures in those files; the city’s announcements quote about 107 miles for the overnight ban. The street checker matches the street name only, so on a long street check the from–to stretch shown.
Airport parking prices
Sources: JFK Airport (Port Authority of NY & NJ) — Airport parking, LaGuardia Airport — Parking and Newark Liberty International Airport — Parking, checked October 30, 2026. For each lot we record the drive-up 24-hour maximum and the lowest rate the airport advertises for booking online. A trip total is the daily price × the number of 24-hour periods between your dates (at least one). Real charges can differ: lots bill in 30-minute steps up to the daily maximum, and online rates change with demand.
Rounding and dates
Times are shown as on the sign. Money is in whole US dollars. The same code makes the numbers in the page text, the tables and the tools, so they always match.
